Harriet Tubman |
Harriet Tubman was an amazing person who helped make a HUGE difference in history. This paragraph will tell you about what she did and how she did it. Harriet Tubman was a “conductor” in the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad was a trail that ran through the Choptank River, in Maryland, and ended in Pennsylvania. Along the way, there was homes of Quakers and Abolitionists. Quakers and Abolitionists did not believe in Slavery and wanted it to end. The first slaves that Harriet had helped had been her sister,Mary, and Mary’s family. That wasn’t the last time Harriet had been conductor on the Underground Railroad. She risked her life every time she helped someone on the Underground Railroad. Harriet even helped in the Civil War! She was also the first woman to lead a military expedition. She helped the Union Army because she wanted freedom for everyone. Harriet was a spy for the Union Army. Harriet helped Colonel James Montgomery plan a raid to free slaves from some plantations that were along the Combahee River in South Carolina. On June 1,1863, three gunboats set out to help free the slaves that were in the plantations along the Combahee River. Several hundred male soldiers and Harriet Tubman were on those three gunboats. Harriet knew where the Confederate Army soldiers were hiding along the shore and were they had placed torpedoes in the water. The Union Army set fire to buildings and destroyed bridges, so that the Confederate Army couldn’t use them. Harriet and the Union freed about 750 slaves and did not lose one soldier in the attack. When Harriet was in the Union Army she was also a nurse who helped save the soldiers lives. So now you know all about why Harriet Tubman was a great leader and an amazing person.
So, everyone has struggles and challenges that we have to come over. Harriet Tubman had some really hard challenges that she had to come over. One of those struggles was being a slave. She had to overcome this to become a great person in history. When she was a slave, she had to overcome some HUGE tragedies. Some of those tragedies were when she was sold away from her family and when both of her husbands died. (She was not a cheater, her first husband died and she remarried two years later.) For more than half of her life, Harriet was treated horribly. This really helped her get angry at the Confederate Army. Another challenge she faced was being a conductor in the Underground Railroad. It was very risky to be a conductor because she could get caught and she could be killed. It was very brave of her and she had a very big heart to take all of these people from slavery into freedom. One of the last challenges we found she faced was being hunted down by the southerners. They wanted to catch her because she had a $40,000 bounty on her back and people really wanted that money. They also did not want Harriet to take their slaves and free them. She disguised herself when she went through towns and she also hid from the southerners. Harriet was a hero for slaves and for the Union but it was not easy to be a hero for all of these people. But, Harriet overcame these challenges and was a hero for all.
I think by now you know all about Harriet Tubman’s amazingness. But, do you ever wonder what is would be like to be Harriet Tubman? Well, it would be very tough work when she was being forced to be a slave. I imagine that she didn’t enjoy being a slave and it got her very angry. It probably didn’t help that she was sold as a child to a man she had never seen before. When she was helping slaves, she was probably really nervous. I don’t think I could make a huge journey and free slaves at the same time. It was really dangerous stuff Harriet was getting into and Harriet preferred to help rather than free herself and leave the others in slavery. Now you know what I think it would be like to be Harriet Tubman.
You have now read my paragraph on Harriet Tubman. I know you have learned a lot and you should go tell your friends about this amazing person. You got to learn about how she made a difference and effected change, her struggles and how she overcame them and how I empathized with Harriet. Now, you know about Harriet Tubman and how great she was!

The Story Of the Majestic Island
Hello! Today I will be telling you the story of this island.
The Story Of the Majestic Island
By Meaghan
Hello! My name is Yura Stinker. Do you see that little person up on that bridge? That's me! Do you want to hear the story of how I got up on that bride? Well of course you do!
On this day in 1964, I was born. I was born on right on this island here! But, my parents didn't want to share the island with anyone else! So, they threw me off of the island. Turns out they did that with like 48 other kids too. I turned out to be the lucky baby because I feel right down into a boat! The other kids landed in the water and were eaten by the killer mermaids.
Yep, that is one thing my parents got to protect the island, KILLER MERMAIDS! Pretty awesome but if you are getting eaten by one, not so much.
So, back to the story. I landed into a boat! But, the bad part about that was that it had two thieves in it, who had stolen some magic. There is one good thing about me falling into the boat, I fell right into a pot of magic! It granted me some magical powers that you will learn about later. Just as I fell into the pot and I was swimming around, doing whatever babies do in pots of magic, A thief noticed me and pulled me out of the pot.
"Hey, Gus look at this! I found a baby in the pot of magic!" The big dude bellowed as he held me by my foot.
"What are we gonna do with it, Rambo?" A small guy, Gus, Asked
"I don't know! It's a baby. Maybe we could teach it how to be a thief." The Rambo said again
"Good idea!"Gus said
Five Years Later
Gus and Rambo, My family, had taught me to be an amazing thief. No one suspected a five year old to be robbing a bank or pick pocketing you. We were stealing from banks every day and no one had caught us. This life is AWESOME!
Fast Forward 24 years later
I can't believe Gus AND Rambo are both dead now! Well, at least now I can go back to the island and find my real parents. I always thought that Gus and Rambo were my parents but today, when Rambo died, he told me the truth. Today, I will go search for my REAL parents!
Two Years Later
I can't believe how far away this island is! I don't think these directions are correct! I hope I get to my parents soon and I hope they are happy to see me. Wait, how did Gus and Rambo end up bei-CHOMP.
"WHAT IS THAT?!" I shouted as I heard 6 more chomps. I looked over the side and I saw 4 mermaids chomping on the side of my boat. "Hey! What are you 4 DOING?!" I shouted
"Oh! Hi. We are just eating boat so that you will fall in the water and then we will eat you." One of the four shouted up and began to eat my boat again.
"SAY WHAT!?!!?!" I shouted down. Oh no oh no! I don't want to be eaten! I shouted in my head and clamped my eyes shut. I wished I was anywhere else but here. Anywhere else! And then suddenly my feet were on dry land!
"Wait, what?" I opened my eyes and looked around. I took a sharp breath in and held it. I remembered this place. It was were my parents had dropped me off a cliff. I remembered everything now. My mom bringing me to the ledge and then dropping me off. I looked around and saw a straw hut. I started to run towards it and I picked up speed. When I reached the huts I burst in the room. All that was in there was an old man. I walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. It was all bone. His skeleton fell off of the chair and looked at me with it's dark sockets. "Ahh!" I screamed as he fell over. I bent over and picked him up. I walked to the side of the island and screamed "HEY YOU, KILLER MERMAIDS! I GOT SOMETHING FOR YOU!" as I threw my father over the side of the cliff. I went around looking for my mom but all I found was a small grave marker with what I thought her name might have been.
5 years later
So, now you know how I got to be the owner of this island! It was very fun telling you my story and I hope to see you again soon!

In one of my first pictures, Lilly has 2 arms. In the story she DOES NOT have 2 arms! Don't let this picture mislead you!
